It’s easy to get too high, especially if you are new to cannabis. Just a little too much of an edible or one extra puff from a potent vape and your high can go from great to overwhelming. So what’s the plan? There are a few things you can do to get yourself feeling right again if you think you’ve had too much.
So You Got Too High… Don’t Panic
Two of the most common side effects of ingesting too much THC are anxiety and paranoia. If you’re experiencing these effects, the worst thing you can do is panic. Freaking out will just make these symptoms worse and make it harder for you to feel better.
Just relax and remember that your high won’t last forever. Nobody has ever died of a cannabis overdose and we promise you won’t be the first. At best it could just be a matter of minutes until you sober up, at worst it could just be a few hours.
Use Some CBD
Ingesting more cannabis may seem counterintuitive, but CBD can actually work to bring your high down to a more manageable level.
That’s because THC produces its effects, at least in part, by binding to CB1 and CB2 cell receptors in the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS). But CBD is believed to actually reduce THC’s ability to bind to these receptors, thus making its effects less intense and making it easier to relax.
The quickest way to get this benefit is by smoking or vaping some CBD flower since these consumption methods can make it reach your bloodstream in just minutes. But some sublingual CBD oil will work just as well, though it may take a little bit longer.
Grab a Drink and Some Tasty Food
Grabbing some food and a drink can be a really great way to distract yourself from your high. The more you think about it, the more you’ll freak out. So finding something to distract yourself from your current predicament can be a great way to take your mind off things and calm yourself down. Drinking a cold beverage will also help that dry mouth that typically occurs when you ingest a lot of THC. Make sure it’s something you really like to eat. Even better if it will take you a while to finish it.
Distract Yourself
There are other things you can also try to distract yourself when you get too high. An obvious one is to turn the TV on to something you really enjoy. Others find that going for a quick walk outside can get them out of their heads and get them thinking more clearly. Even just playing guitar, or a mundane task like some light cleaning can be enough to get your mind off of things.
Lie Down and Chill Out
Waiting out your high is much easier if you are in a relaxed environment. Lie down, turn off the lights, and just relax. If you’re lucky, you might even fall asleep and get it over with quickly. And if you find that you’ve calmed down sufficiently, go ahead and turn the TV on so you can wait out the rest of your high with a little entertainment. Just cause you got too high doesn’t mean you have to be bored!
